Hi there! I’m Purplelicious. You might know me from reddit where I moderate the r/fantasyromance subreddit, or from the romantasy circle jerk where we snark on the books we love the most Which is, as you can guess – Romantasy, or “fantasy books that have Romance as a major plotline”. Of course, it’s a rather new genre so it means a lot of things. Maybe I’ll rant about it.
But WHO am I and why do I think I can tell others what to read? I’m a cynical, sardonic Gen X who has always had a love for reading. I started to read fantasy books as a child, with Narnia and the Hobbit and never put them down again. I have read 1000s of books over the years, and even got my BA in English literature in university (well, mostly due to reading books seemed like a good way to get an education, since I was already doing that)
Since then I seem to have created a small niche following and people seem to like to know what I think about books, plus I have a lot of fuck you opinions.
Why I Started This Blog
It all started as a way to get free books. I figured if I talked about books enough I would get some of them for free. I lurk around NetGalley and post reviews there and if publishers knew how how much influence I swing in my tiny niche corner of the internet maybe they’d send me physical copies.
Also, I’m not cut out to be a fiction writer. I just like talking books. I’m very particular about the books I like and don’t like. And I don’t always stick to Romantic Fantasy or other types of Speculative Fiction. I love true crime, British detective mysteries, horror and historical non fiction and whatever else interests me.

The thing is, an author can write a 11/10 novel and the next book will be a steaming pile of crap. Just read the book, not the author
What You’ll Find Here
To start with it’s just gonna be me and my reviews. But I have plans! I’ll be inviting a few close friends to drop their reviews as well. I’ll probably have a few rants as well, just about the changing face of fantasy literature.
We are all here to have fun, and remember this is just books, not real life. For many books I will say I love them, not that they are good. But also, I try to be fair in my criticism with specifics on why I hated something because “the writing was bad” doesn’t cut it. I don’t care if you agree with me, but I hope you enjoy my reviews all the same.
